Spend the day steeped in history as you travel through the Kingdom of Fife. Experiencethe beautiful quaint (and famous!) villages, the rolling hills and the stunning East Neuk Coast.
Your trip starts with a 9am departure from your accommodation in Edinburgh. A short drive out of the City takes you to South Queensferry. A beautiful village at the South end of the Forth Bridges. From here, you can get amazing views of the Forth Rail Bridge, the Forth Road Bridge and Queen Margaret Crossing. A photo opportunity not to be missed. If you want to grab a coffee here, just let your driver know.
From South Queensferry, you’ll cross the Queen Margaret Crossing over to the Kingdom of Fife. First stop in Fife is Culross. A popular setting on Outlander, and many other television and film settings, Culross is one of the most picturesque villages in Scotland. Have a slow meander along the cobbled streets or visit the ochre-coloured palace.
Next stop is Dunfermline Abbey, the resting place of some of Scotland’s ancient Royals including Robert the Bruce. Situated in Scotland’s Ancient Capital, the Abbey Nave is open to visitors.
Falkland is the next stop, famous for its Palace and is another Outlander filming location. Nestled in the Howe of Fife at the foot of the Lomond Hills, Falkland is a small village with narrow cobbled streets offering traditional pubs, quirky shops and tea rooms.
From Falkland, a drive across the Kingdom to the Coast takes you to St Andrews – home of golf. Visit the famous Old Course with the landmark Swilcan Bridge at the 18th hole. Visit the beautiful West Sands beach with its vast expanse of golden sand. Visit the ruins of St Andrews Castle, walk through the relics of the Cathedral and meander through theUniversity of St Andrews’ buildings.
To complete your day, a drive along the beautiful East Neuk of Fife on your way back to Edinburgh. Your driver will stop at Crail, Pittenweem and Elie. Crail is the perfect example of an East Neuk fishing village. Crail’s Shoregate is one of the most photographed waterfronts in the UK. Pittenweem is a traditional fishing port with an active and working harbour.
Elie is a picturesque seaside town with vast expanses of golden sand. Ruby Bay is a sheltered sandy bay beach with rock pools and from here you can visit the Lighthouse and the remains of the Lady’s Tower. After a full day, you will arrive back at your accommodation at approximately 7.30pm.
